The tree-dwelling, nocturnal animal of Australia feeds only on a few species of eucalyptus.  Adults eat two pounds of young leaves a day.  As marsupials, they have a pouch for their babies to grow in.  The tiny infant spends its first six months there, attached to a teat.  They climb trees in a series of jumps, holding on with their sharp claws and grasping feet.  In the early 1900's, they were hunted relentlessly for their soft fur.  Now protected, the population of several thousand is on the increase.
